Alex Blanco (b. 1988), Ukraine
Alex Blanco (b. 1988) is a female Ukrainian-born artist currently based in the Netherlands. She holds a Master’s degree in Film & Photographic Studies from Leiden University and completed a semester in Photography at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague.
Blanco is the author of Meat, Fish & Aubergine Caviar, published in 2023 by Overlapse (UK). The photographic series of the same name was featured in the Fotomuseum Den Haag exhibition Ouders (Parents) in 2022 and later became part of the museum’s permanent collection. Since then, the project has been widely recognized and featured in publications such as Vogue, Elle, Libération, Het Parool, and the British Journal of Photography, among others.
Committed to continuous artistic development, Blanco regularly participates in artists’ talks at universities and cultural institutions. Her recent body of work, The End of an Era (beginning of something else), was first exhibited in February 2025 at Vrijpaleis, Amsterdam, as part of Interwoven: a group show bringing together Dutch and Ukrainian artists.
Blanco’s practice is deeply personal and sensorial, often pushing the viewer beyond comfort. Rooted in memory and the immediacy of sensory experience: taste, smell, and touch, her work balances intuition and emotion with conceptual depth. Through photography, she seeks to establish a direct and affective connection with the viewer, exploring themes that, while intimate, resonate universally.
